Excited for Halloween!

The girls were very excited to receive a package of halloween shirts and hair clips from grandma and grandpa Lewis. They immediately decked themselves out and posed for some pictures. Eris plans to go scary this year and be a "headless wonder" while Shayla prefers to stick with being a princess. We're looking forward to the big day and plan to spend some time decorating to prepare. We love Halloween!

Part of the 25 Club!

Eris has past the 25 point mark in Accelerated Reading so she has officially become a member of the club. To celebrate, she received a huge jawbreaker and was entered in a drawing to receive the choice of any item she wants from the bookfair at the end of the year! She will also be able to use her points to buy books at the fair coming up next week. She was also chosen from her class to post a paper she wrote about her trip to Idaho on the Humanities Board at school. Eris has done great on her spelling tests and even knows how to spell big words like "appreciate". She is an excellent reader, writer and speller and we are so proud of her! She is also very athletic and is looking forward to a hopskotch tournament that is coming up. She is bound and determined to win but knows that as long as she tries her best, she'll do fantastic. Way to go Eris!

Dr. Shayla to the Rescue

I have felt sub-par the last few days with a cold and trying to get my body used to this diet/exercise endeavor but no fear, Dr. Shayla to the rescue. She puts on her Dr. dress up stuff and makes me lay down to check my fever, tuck me in with a blanket, get me a drink of water, sing me songs and read me stories. It usually only lasts a couple of minutes but it is so sweet. She is very mindful of others and once she slows down to look at a situation, she does everything she can to try to make it better. Of course she won't let me take a picture of her in the dr stuff right now (she always works on her own time) but here is one to shows her cute little attitude!

Baby Brains

Gavin is getting so big and even teaching his stuffed lamb to brush his teeth! He is such a smarty pants. I can't believe that he is only 16 months old and already saying so many new words and following simple directions. Today he threw his bowl and spoon on the floor when he was done, like he usually does, so I told him "put it in the sink." He actually walked them over to the sink so I lifted him up and he threw them in! He now waves and says bye and sometimes even blows kisses when he wants to go out in the backyard and play. He also has learned most of the actions to "Head, shoulders, knees and toes" and can say the words "head", "knees", "toes" & "eyes". He loves to read books and will lay back on my lap and usually with the book upside down, pretend to read and tell me about the pictures. He loves to talk on the phone, especially with big sister Shayla. We were babysitting today and if he was being mean I told him "be nice and give hugs," and he would softly lay his cheek against hers. If he wants me to pick him up, I ask him to say "up please" and he says it while signing please. While I was pregnant with Gavin, Eris and I read a book together called "Baby Brains" and she said at that time that he was going to be just like the baby in the book. She still remembers that and enjoys calling him "baby brains" each time he learns something new.

Conference

The kids and I watched conference together today while daddy was at work. They did so much better then 6 months ago. I figure if we stay consistent, it'll get easier and easier for them to sit through it all. Eris picked out some great things that she learned and I was amazed at how she knew so many of the scripture stories already. We have a great primary and Eris soaks it all up like a little sponge. She's so smart! She loves reading the scriptures already and reminds us to do it when we forget. She was telling me the other day how a friend of hers in church didn't know what they were or ever read them with her family at home. She then said, we should invite her over to read scriptures with us! She is such a good girl and amazes me every day with her kindness towards others. Just like conference reiterated several times; if we stay faithful, consistent and endure to the end, our families will be blessed. The kids are all ready for bedtime stories, another one of our favorite activities. I love my kiddos!

Visit with Great Grandma and Grandpa Giles

So we were able to visit with Grandma and Grandpa Giles a few weeks ago and snapped some cute pics. It was really nice to spend time visiting with them. The kids always love the cookies and milk and even spent some time playing in the sun room (otherwise labeled as "their cottage".) We love our grandmas and grandpas!

We are the champions...

I didn't drive anywhere today! We rode our bikes everywhere; to school, the park, home, to school, to gymnastics and home. It was probably around 5 miles today. I'm gearing up for the beginner triathlon I may attempt in November!
Spencer biked an extra 30 miles and did 30 laps in the pool. His 1/2 ironman is coming up in 3 short weeks.
Shayla did great in her gymnastics class and is loving it. She has such good balance and is a speedy quick little runner. During Shayla's class, Eris and Spencer played t-ball in the field across the parking lot. Eris learned how to catch a groundball, worked and improved her swing and is learning to throw farther. They had a lot of fun playing together and when Gavin met up with them, he wouldn't let go of the baseball. Just like his daddy, baseball may be his favorite mainstream sport.
Eris is quite the little gymnast. She held her handstand the longest and climbed the rope the highest in her class. While riding our bikes home she sang, "I am the champion..." Now for our Friday night Family movie, "Chicken Little", to hear him sing the champion song for her to relive her glory.
